The whole family got involved in making this quilt for my mom.

This quilt became a family project when I decided to have multiple family members work on it. It was a gift for my mom, made in 2000 with various red and white fabrics (her favorite color is red). Each square is about 5.5 inches, I think. I laid them out randomly, and the quilt fits a twin-size bed.
This quilt really got around while it was being quilted. I pieced the whole thing myself and then enlisted a number of family members to help with the hand quilting (most of them had never quilted before). My sister lived in North Carolina at the time, so when I went to visit her, I brought the quilt, and my sister, her husband, and their young daughter each put some stitches in the quilt. We took pictures of each person as they worked on it, and they were all added to a photo album that we gave to my mom with the quilt. My daughter was not quite 6 years old at the time, and she did some quilting too, along with my husband and several of my nieces.
My mom used this quilt on her bed for many years and pretty much wore it out. It's been patched multiple times with beautiful red and white fabric that I bought on vacation in Maine in 2000 (where I also worked on the quilt!). It has now been retired and she's using a new quilt that I made for her a couple of years ago.
